What is security?

What does it mean to be secure? Isn’t that the goal of security?

Privacy is security for the individual. The argument for mass surveillance demands the individual give up individual privacy so they can provide group security. It is never mentioned that the loss of privacy comes with a corresponding loss of individual security. It is not a fair trade.
